36 July Uprising
In July 2024 in Bangladesh, a significant student-led protest movement "Anti-Discrimination Student Movement" occurred in Bangladesh that focused on the call for getting rid with the government job quota system.
The movement became stronger when the Prime Minister's declaration that the protests were "unjustified". Violence, injuries, and deaths resulted from conflicts among students, the police, and members of the ruling party.
As a result, the government established a countrywide curfew and closed universities temporarily. An internet blackout was implemented as the situation got worse. According to the OHCHR has revealed that around 1,400 people were killed during the July 2024 uprising in Bangladesh. The major violence and government crackdowns that characterized the protests ultimately played a role in the 15-year rule of the ruling party coming to an end.
